There are three ways of getting rid of leftovers; throw them out, feed them to the dog, or eat them yourself.
Of the three, I recommend the last. It means you are neither wasteful nor cruel to animals. Often the food has improved for a night in the ice box, and you can get all of it if the family is picky. Indeed, some first meals can be specifically planned to peak the second day, and quantities provided for.
Treat meats and chicken with respect and a very cold regard. Milk products as well. Few milks are green deliberately. Take this a sign to eat out.
Do not feed leftovers to visitors, lest they think you are treating them with disrespect. If the leftover is chili con carne the rule may be relaxed. If they object to chili, treat them with disrespect.
Note: soups can improve, but few other liquid dishes do. Second-day kale smoothies are often left untasted. The liver frappÄ— jug never seems to empty.
